You don’t need another app to track your water intake

What do you need: Shortcuts.

This shortcut here can be accessed from your lock screen, it will ask the quantity of water you drank but also having a default amount, log that information into Apple Health and then ask if you want to open Apple Health to check your consumption.

It is also possible to collect the daily data with the shortcut and display it but only if the phone is unlocked and currently there’s no way to know if the phone is locked or not from inside Shortcuts.

And now a little history…

Over the last few months I have become a bit more health conscious wondering if I could improve my quality of life. But the fact is that by also being an engineer I wanted data to compare before and after so I started logging data on the tool that I use the most: my phone.

Then I started looking for an app, “there’s an app for this” right? But there’s something I didn’t mention, I don’t like creating new accounts, answering 41 questions about my health, being presented with a magnificent plan of only 1 currency per week after the first free 7-day trial and tons of notifications. Ow and data collection, but I digress.

I just wanted to track my water intake so I started looking how else could it be done and that’s when I discovered Shortcuts on iPhone 😎

Keep coding!
